Elementary Newsletter October 3rd 2022

October is here! We have a short week, but a lot of information is packed into this week's newsletter. I hope that everyone enjoys a little time off to recharge. When we get back next Tuesday we finish the 1st quarter strong!

Library News:

The Fall Book Fair is just around the corner! Our fair runs from Tuesday, 10/25-Thursday 10/27 after school and during conferences. See the flyer attached for book fair hours.

Can't make it to the fair? Students may shop during the school day starting Thursday 10/20. Sign up for an ewallet account (see flyer) or send money in an envelope marked with your child's name and the amount enclosed. Don't forget to include tax! You can also shop the online book fair at bit.ly/bookfairpcs.

We need volunteers! Sign up to help with set up, previews, book fair nights, or pack up here.

DESSA:

We are committed to supporting our students' social and emotional development. We know that if this is not a priority then academic learning can not happen.

One of the main ways that we are doing this is by first looking at each individual child's strengths. We look to all of the places where they are thriving and then use this information to help support potential struggles by building on those strengths. In the Elementary School we use the DESSA (The Devereux Student Strengths Assessment). This tool guides what we are doing in classrooms as well as things that you can do at home to strengthen the social and emotional development of your child. We have been spending the first several weeks really getting to know your child and now, over the next couple of weeks, we will complete the DESSA.

Meet Mrs. Trehy:

Over the next few weeks, we will be profiling some of our staff in the Elementary Building so that you can get to know some of the folks that get to work with your children day in and day out.

Hi! I am Marie Trehy, the elementary school counselor at PCS (grades 2nd-5th). I am currently working on my LPC, Licensed Professional Counselor, and RPT, Registered Play Therapist, certifications - and should be done by the end of this school year! I received my B.S. from Missouri State University and my M.Ed. from University of Missouri - St. Louis. I love working with our students and am honored to share in their stories. I have a baby boy, Otis, who will be one year old this December. Motherhood has been the most wonderful, challenging, rewarding journey.. and has helped me become a better counselor! Outside of school I enjoy spending time with family, traveling and exploring the outdoors.

Please reach out if there is anything I can help with, I look forward to connecting with you! My email is mtrehy@premiercharterschool.org, or by phone 314-645-9600 x248.
