Elementary School Newsletter 8.28.2023
Welcome back PCS Families!
We are so excited to move into the second week of the 2023-2024 school year! We had an outstanding kickoff to the year last week, and the energy and enthusiasm from both our dedicated staff and our incredible students have set the tone for an exciting year ahead. As we delve into the second week, we want to extend our appreciation to each family for your unwavering support and for entrusting us with the education and growth of your students.
As you might know, the elementary school has 2 new members of the administrative team, Jessica Smyth and Dr. Suzanne Bright. We got to meet some of you at the ice cream social and leadership meet and greet and we eagerly look forward to connecting with all of you throughout the year. We invite you to learn more about us by viewing the attached bios.
A Few Reminders:
We really appreciate your patience with drop off and pick up thus far. For the most part drop off has been somewhat smooth. We know that the pick up traffic has been very congested. We are working to make some tweaks to this to help with the flow of traffic. Please see some things below that you can do to help us as we dismiss almost 1,000 students from our campus.
Morning Drop Off:
Students should arrive between 8:00-8:15
Reminder: starting Monday, Aug. 28th all elementary students need to walk to their classrooms on their own. Parents will not be permitted to enter the building without a scheduled meeting.
In the morning: the right lane is for fast drop off (staff will help open car doors, parents please stay in cars). There is no parking in the right lane.
If parking on the street, please use the entry to find the closest sidewalk to enter the campus and always use the disengaged crosswalks when moving through the parking lot.
Please follow the directions of staff in the parking lot for your child’s safety.
Afternoon Pick Up:
Dismissal begins at 3:25.
The right lane can be used for parking while the left lane remains open for driving.
If your child has permission to be a “walker” they can say goodbye to their teachers at their designated door (2nd grade: 2nd grade pod door, 3rd grade: 3rd grade pod door, 4th & 5th grade: front doors). Please discuss your meetup spot with your child so that there is no confusion.
If your child does not have permission to be a “walker” they will be located at the front of the building with a teacher until their guardian arrives with their colored sign displaying the child’s name and their teacher’s name.
Please use your turn signals when leaving the parking lot.
If parking on the street, please use the crosswalks and proper sidewalks to exit the campus grounds.
School Hours:
We also want to remind families that the school day begins at 8:15. When arriving at school after 8:15 your child is considered tardy. Your child will need to stop by the office to get a tardy slip before heading to class.
Dismissal is at 3:25. We kindly ask that you please pick up your child promptly and have a backup plan in place in case of emergency. Our staff is not expected to stay beyond 3:45 so supervision of late pickups is not available.
