Elementary School Newsletter 3.11.2024

Dear Elementary Families,

We are eager to welcome families to our building for another round of parent-teacher conferences! It's hard to believe that we're already entering the fourth quarter of the academic year; time really flies. As we prepare to discuss your child's progress and achievements, it's also worth noting that spring break begins this week, offering a well-deserved opportunity for rest and rejuvenation. We're excited to collaborate with you to ensure the success of our students as we head towards the final stretch of the school year.

4th &1st Grade PBL Showcases

We're thrilled to share the success of our recent 1st and 4th-grade Project-Based Learning (PBL) showcases! It was heartwarming to witness so many families in our buildings supporting the hard work of our students. The enthusiasm from the kids as they showcased their projects was truly infectious.

In 1st grade, students created a captivating Shape Museum, demonstrating their creativity and understanding of geometric concepts. Meanwhile, our 4th graders curated an impressive American Revolution Artifact Museum, showcasing their knowledge of this pivotal period in history.

We are so grateful to everyone who attended and supported these showcases. Your encouragement plays a crucial role in our students' growth and success. Let's continue to celebrate their achievements together!

Yard Signs:

Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to display our yard signs! Your support means a lot to us. As our conferences approach, we kindly ask that you return the signs to your teacher this week to prevent weathering and ensure they can be used again later. Be on the lookout for us to pass signs out again in the future. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Pick Up Procedure Reminder:

Over the past few weeks and months, we've observed an increasing number of cars stopping in the left lane to pick up children. This poses a significant safety risk as students are crossing a lane of traffic without supervision, with no guarantee that traffic will remain stopped. Additionally, we've noticed parents crossing in the middle of the parking lot while we're directing traffic, which creates hazards for both drivers and pedestrians.

Please remember that safety is our utmost priority when picking up your students. To ensure the safety of all, we kindly ask that you use designated crosswalks while a staff member is present to stop traffic. Moreover, we urge you not to stop in the left lane for pick-up; instead, please wait until a parking spot becomes available.

Thank you for your attention and cooperation in this important matter.

Social Media In Our Upper Grades:

We've noticed a concerning trend of social media usage becoming an issue in our upper elementary grades, where it hasn't been before. To address this, our counselors will be speaking with grade levels about social media safety, and we're arranging for a police officer to provide additional insights. Stay tuned for details on a parent presentation from the officer.

We urge all parents to assist us in this matter by monitoring their child's social media usage and helping them understand the importance of safety online. Together, we can ensure a safer digital environment for our students.

Keep your child reading over spring break with a fun, optional challenge! Teachers will send the challenge home with your students this week.  Or you can print out a copy here. Students should return them by the Friday after break to be entered into a drawing for books, posters, and other prizes from the book fair! Happy Reading!
