Elementary School Newsletter 12.11.2023

Hi Elementary Families,

In last week’s newsletter, the 5 PCS Graduate Aims were highlighted, particularly with the work that 3rd graders are doing with their PBL project. It is important that we highlight some of the work that we do as a school to contribute towards our graduate aims with you as well. In this newsletter, we’d like to share with you an assessment that we do that supports our work in developing our students socially and emotionally, which contributes to our graduate aim of being emotionally intelligent.

DESSA is a social emotional competency assessment that we will be giving  this year to all students Pre-K-8th grade in order to gain information on how our students are doing socially and emotionally and to tap into additional resources for how to best support their social-emotional development.

Our goal this year is to gather this data and then intentionally use the information that it gives us about individual students to guide and inform our interventions and supports.  This would include IEPs, BIT, SST, classroom work, restorative practices, counseling and the work of our SEL Specialists.

Soccer:

This SPRING, PCS will be organizing PK-5th Grade soccer again (like we did in the fall). Once again, this is all sponsored and organized through the YMCA. PCS will be collecting the forms and organizing the teams. This time we will be collecting forms using Google Forms. All forms will be required to be filled out using the Google Form (linked below). Payments can be made on your Parent Portal or in person at the middle school front office during summer break (attn: Katie Lydon, YMCA Soccer, with your child's name included).

Kindergarten/5th Grade Winter Concert:

Mark your calendars for the enchanting 'Bookends' concert on December 14th, 2023 at 5:30, hosted in the Front Gymnasium. This special event unites Kindergarten and fifth-grade performers in a magical collaboration. Watch as fifth graders, serving as student conductors, lead the choirs through a heartwarming symphony that celebrates the musical journey from innocence to leadership. Join us for an inspiring evening of growth, harmony, and musical storytelling!

***Parking for the concert:  Please park in front or near the Middle School Building.  Walk to the front of the building where you will be greeted and escorted to the gymnasium.

Popcorn With the Principals:

We enjoyed hosting the families that were able to attend our Popcorn With the Principals event last week! If you were not able to attend, don’t worry! We plan to host one more connection event in the spring.
