Early Childhood Newsletter August 29th 2022
Hello PCS Families!
We want to officially welcome everyone to the 2022-2023 school year! It has been such a pleasure to meet and welcome so many families back to school! If we have not met yet, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jodi Huber and I have been at PCS since 2003. I taught 1st grade for nine years and then moved into the assistant principal role for 8 years. This is my second year as the Principal of Early Childhood (Kindergarten and First Grade). I love the Premier Charter School community and feel honored everyday to be serving the most amazing children!
My name is Mary George, I am the head of the Pre-K program. I have worked at PCS since we first opened in 2000. I have taught Kindergarten, started our school library and have worked as a coach in our coaching program. I have met many of you on school tours and at open houses because I also help with the enrollment of our Early Childhood building. I agree with Mrs. Huber that we have such an amazing community and it is always such a pleasure to get to know you, the parents, as we build our partnership to support your children.
We have had such a wonderful start to the year! Our students have really settled into the routine of coming to school! We know that we are perhaps your family's first experience in education. It is our goal to create a strong social and emotional foundation, but also foster their curiosity of learning. Children will be seen as thinkers, researchers, and problem solvers. This is where their adventure in learning begins! We can’t wait to continue to share their adventure with you!
As many of you know this is an interesting time in education. You can’t turn on the news without hearing about the teacher/staff shortages across the country. At PCS we feel so lucky to have such an amazing staff! While some of our staff is new to PCS we are all here to serve our students and help each of them grow! Each week we are going to highlight one of our grade levels or departments! We had our staff fill out a “collective resume” for each grade level and department to showcase all of the strengths and experiences each team has to offer our students. Our first grade level we are going to highlight is our wonderful Pre-K teachers!
A few reminders:
AM Drop Off: For drop off in the morning; as your child gets more comfortable walking to their classroom we encourage you to take advantage of the drop off circle in the morning! We have several staff members outside ready to help your child out of the car and direct them to their classroom. We also have staff inside that can help students find their way once in the building. Please remember when using the drop off circle to please stay in your car. Also, if you are using the drop off circle please do not try to pass other cars while in the circle. If you would like to help your child out of the car or get bookbags out of the trunk we ask that you park in the lot. One final reminder when crossing the parking lot in the morning and afternoon please use the crosswalk and wait until you are directed to cross. We want to make sure everyone is safe when moving through the parking lot. We appreciate your patience and help during drop off and pick up each morning!
School Hours: We also want to remind families that the school day begins at 8:15. When arriving at school after 8:15 your child is considered tardy. Your child will need to stop by the office to get a tardy slip before heading to class.
Dress Code: In order to provide additional dress code flexibility, we have added navy blue to khaki as a color option for pants, shorts, skirts and jumpers. We have updated the attached family handbook to reflect this change. Our complete dress code policy can be found on page 4 of the handbook.
Have a wonderful week! If you have any questions, need to discuss a matter, or simply need a check in...our door is always open! Please feel free to contact us via phone or email.
Kindly,
Jodi and Mary
