Middle School Newsletter April 11th 2022

In October I wrote about Project Based Learning (PBL). I wanted to share an example of a 6th grade project written by our students.

The Greenhouse Journey

Aliyah Southone, Monica Rodelas-Lopez, Viviana Sotelo-Lopez

This all started with the unit about the book, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. We read the book, then we chose a problem which was a lack of sustainable agriculture. When we got the place we were going to research, we immediately found out that the weather in Tanzania is what was causing the plants and crops to die.

So we started to look into a greenhouse with Ms.Schuth and Mrs. Smyth. In that unit, we made a greenhouse model that gave us an idea to get a greenhouse for the school. We went outside and took some measurements before we could start. After a couple months of planning and talking to our teachers we made docs, and slides with information we had about the greenhouse. While we were gathering information we talked to Ms. Schuth and Mrs. Smyth about how we could get the money and we decided to do a fundraiser to get the money we needed.

In total we raised $300 but our budget was $400 so we talked to Ms. Wright and have decided for the last $100 we can do a dollar dress down on April 15, 2022. Please see the attached flyer  for more information.

As always thank you for your support and please don’t hesitate to reach out if there's anything you need.
Kindly,

Kim
