Elementary School Newsletter March 28th 2022
Welcome back all! I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break. As the weather warms and the flowers start to bloom, I hope we all take an opportunity to be reflective of the growth made by our students. It is refreshing to see everyone come back and there is excitement about how the remaining months will unfold. Today's newsletter is full of reminders and happenings over the next few weeks.
Face Covering Update:
Starting today, face coverings will be optional in all Premier Charter School buildings. This is a decision that was made after very careful analysis of updated guidance from the CDC, the St. Louis City Department of Health, and most importantly, our ongoing evaluation of our own COVID case data. As seen below, we have had 7 total COVID positive cases over the last 4 weeks and as such, feel confident that our data supports this decision.
Moving forward, we want to ensure that we support all students, staff and families in their decisions regarding face coverings. This is an excellent opportunity to talk to your child(ren) about respecting the decisions of others. Also, please keep in mind that we offer virtual learning to all students through our partnership with the Missouri MOCAP program. If you are interested in transitioning to MOCAP as a result of this decision, you can contact your child(ren)’s principal for more information.
If there is a “COVID-19 outbreak” at a school, as defined below, masks will be required for a temporary period of time at that school or building. The goal is to limit additional spread during an outbreak, protect the health and safety of students and staff, and avoid having to close the school. Therefore, masks will be required for all individuals in the school building for two weeks (14 calendar days) once the positivity rate reaches the threshold noted below. If after two weeks, the building’s positivity rate is below the threshold noted below, then masks will once again become optional. However, if the positivity rate for the building remains at or above the threshold defined below, then all individuals in the building will be required to wear face masks for an additional week or until the school building’s positivity rate is below the threshold noted below.
An outbreak in a school is defined as: 2% or more of the student population tests positive for COVID-19 at a given time. We will continue to monitor health conditions of teachers and staff and include this information on our weekly principal newsletters.
PCS is committed to the health and safety of all members of the school community. As a result, if there is a significant spike in COVID positive cases, even if we do not reach the 2% threshold, we may make the decision to temporarily reinstate face coverings as described above.
