Many people celebrate love in February. I'd like to highlight our love for our wonderful nurse, Mrs. Virginia Wilson. Nurse Wilson is a true leader in our community. She has the best interests of our families and leads with kindness to our students, staff, and families. Over the past year and a half, I have seen Nurse Wilson show courage, professionalism, wisdom, and always brings positive energy. She has gone above and beyond as we navigate through all of the challenges. We are lucky to have her and I want to say THANK YOU NURSE WILSON!

When determining quarantines, what are we counting as day zero?
Date of a POSITIVE result or a confirmed exposure that meets CDC criteria of a close contact:
Within 3 to 6 feet of an infected person for more than 15 minutes over a 24 hour period
One or both persons did not correctly and consistently wear a well-fitting mask

What happens in the event of a close contact that meets the above criteria?
Vaccinated AND outside of the home exposure: May return to school as normal
Unvaccinated and outside of the home exposure: Quarantine for 5 days after exposure
Unvaccinated and Vaccinated in-home exposure options:
If the student can completely isolate from the positive person, the student may return after 5 days
If the student cannot completely isolate from the positive person, the child may test on day 5 and return with a negative test, or if testing is not available, 10-day quarantine is required if there is constant exposure
If the student cannot wear a mask properly, 10-day quarantine required

What happens in the event of a close contact that does not meet the above criteria?
A modified quarantine is an option in some cases. Modified quarantine is an option because mitigation practices like masking and other health practices are in place.

Modified quarantine allows certain close contacts who have been exposed to COVID-19 while in school to continue essential activities (e.g., in-person classroom learning) during their quarantine period, as long as they do not exhibit any symptoms. The goal of a modified quarantine is to allow students to continue attending school without disruption when it is safe to do so while monitoring symptoms.

COVID testing within 3 to 5 days of exposure or onset of symptoms is highly recommended in the event of any exposure or close contact.

Based on these guidelines, and universal masking at school, we expect to be able to use modified quarantines which will allow students to continue coming to school, regardless of vaccination status. If we see additional transmission of cases (a cluster or outbreak) we would be required to use standard quarantines.

What can students do during modified quarantine?
After an exposure to a positive case, students who qualify for a modified quarantine can continue coming to school during the entire quarantine as long as they do not have symptoms.

You will be notified if your child qualifies for a modified quarantine or will need a standard quarantine after close contact. Modified quarantine only applies to students and not for staff or adults.

Important Note:
Testing is always encouraged 5 days post-exposure but not required unless in-home exposure who cannot separate
