ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER - February 15th, 2021

Dearest PCS Families,

I am sure many of you have heard the term Project Based Learning or PBL when speaking to your child about their learning, talking to your child’s teacher, or checking out the PCS website.  With that, it is important that as parents you understand what is happening in your child’s classroom and the impact that PBL has on your child’s learning.

In a nutshell, a PBL project motivates students to partake in rigorous learning to gain knowledge in order to remember that knowledge longer. Projects give students the chance to apply the skills and content they learn in school to personally relevant and real-world situations. Children also learn success skills in PBL, such as how to think critically, solve problems, work in teams, and make presentations. These skills help students succeed in the future, both in school and in today’s work world.  This short video also captures learning through a PBL lens.

Throughout the next few weeks, I will be highlighting different projects that have been experienced in our classrooms this year.  There is truly amazing learning and teaching taking place that demonstrate the rockstar students and teachers we have here at PCS!

If you would like to take a deeper dive into understanding PBL, please reach out and I can point you to some additional resources.

Warmly,

Dana
